GDI is the sole provider of the world’s leading clay soil stabilizer in our markets. It is an ion exchange chemical which allows the clay to disperse its water, fully compress, and permanently eliminate its natural attraction to water. Soil-cement compressed earth bricks are very common and depending on the amount of cement used can be very strong. However, when using soil that have clay, these bricks will absorb water and soon begin to swell and crack. Bricks made with SS801 require less cement and will retain their strength and resistance to water forever. So what is the ‘source’ of the problem? It is the electrical charge in the clay. Without the electrical charge, there is no attraction to water, no pelicular water, and no expansion/contraction beyond acceptable limits. SS801 treats the cause of the problem, not just the symptoms, by eliminating the electrical charge in the clay. By doing this, the soil no longer attracts or accepts water and can also be compacted to 100%. This results in bricks are much stronger, longer lasting, waterproof, and less expensive.
More specifically, SS801 is a very powerful ionizing agent which ionizes water and induces ionic exchange at the surface of clay particles. It contains powerful organic surface active agents (surfactants) which greatly reduce the surface tension of water, which greatly increases the ability of the ionized water to penetrate soil. The initial action of SS801 is as a dispersant. The ionized solution initially acts as a super plasticizer to increase the plasticity of the treated soil. This greatly increases the compactability of soil treated with SS801 as the clay particles are able to be moved within the gravel more easily.
Through the powerful ionizing action of SS801, an ionic exchange is induced at the surface of clay particles. This means that much of the water which is normally bound up, can be drained away as free water. SS801 in the first instance therefore acts as a de-watering agent. In releasing previously bound water, SS801 enables clay particles to be moved much closer together on compaction. After treatment, the “cushion” of electrostatically bound water which normally surrounds clay particles and prevents optimum compaction, is now expelled by physical compaction, enabling realignment of clay particles. SS801 therefore acts as an extremely efficient compaction aid.
SS801 enables optimum compaction to be achieved which reduces void space, and reduces the amount of water in the clay. Maximization of compaction achieved by SS801 increases clay particle interlock which results from the particles being realigned and pushed closer together. The process of ionic exchange induced by SS801 is a permanent process, which permanently reduces the attraction between water and clay, and therefore reduces permanently the swell and shrinkage. It permanently reduces the Plasticity Index of the clay.
